Exactly one year after hitting the Bored Ape NFTs, Yuga Labs has set an official date for the launch of the metaverse. According to the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Twitter feed, “The Otherside” metaverse opens April 30 at 12 noon ET. The BAYC has also announced an official Discord channel for “The Otherside.”
While this news was pinned to BAYC’s Twitter feed, it came from the new “@OthersideMeta” account. Currently, “@OthersideMeta” already has 48,000 followers and the Discord channel “The Otherside” has over 120,000 members. So many people wanted to join “The Otherside” Discord that the server temporarily crashed.
Most people expect the launch of “The Otherside” to coincide with a virtual land sale. However, the Yuga Labs team is urging fans to wait for official news from its Twitter and Discord accounts next week. Yuga Labs also made it clear that there is no official “Otherside” domain yet.
On Twitter, the BAYC also drew attention to a new character in “The Otherside,” called a “Koda.” Many in the BAYC community believe that “Kodas” will resemble the flying creature featured in Yuga Labs’ recent “Otherside” ad. There are also rumors that Yuga Labs will be offering Koda NFTs to BAYC members in the coming months. However, Yuga Labs has not released any further details on how Koda NFTs will work in “The Otherside” metaverse.
In the days leading up to the launch of “The Otherside”, Yuga Labs’ ApeCoin hit a recent high of around $18.30 per token. Most market experts believe that ApeCoin’s rally was driven by the expectation of a land sale in the “The Otherside” metaverse.
Will Bored Apes Top the NFT Charts in 2022?
As mentioned above, the BAYC tweeted the news of the launch of “Otherside” on its first anniversary. In another tweet, the team’s founders noted what an “insane year” it has been. The BAYC also welcomed “many more” successful years “to come”.
A year ago, anyone could have smashed a Bored Ape NFT for 0.08 ETH. Since then, even people outside the NFT community know what has happened to the value of Bored Ape NFTs. It’s rare for this 10K NFT collection not to be ranked in OpenSea’s weekly top five, and the current reserve price for one Bored Ape NFT is approximately 138.5 ETH (~$400,000).
There have been many factors behind the insane success of the BAYC, including the Mutant Ape airdrops, the release of ApeCoin, and massive partnerships with Adidas. Yuga Labs also added the IP rights to CryptoPunks and Meebits NFTs to its portfolio in 2022. And, of course, who could forget the dozens of A-list celebrities who now have their own monkey avatars?
While some reporters speculate that projects like Azuki or Moonbirds could dethrone the BAYC, few doubt that Yuga Labs’ signature NFTs will one day disappear. Given the recent price action for NFTs and ApeCoin tokens from Yuga Labs – plus the high demand to get involved in “The Otherside” metaverse – it’s likely that the BAYC is looking forward to another “insane year”.
